The three-star defensive end has either telegraphed his National Signing Day choice or is employing the art of extremely subtle deception to throw us off his trail.

Three-star defensive end Blake McClain, perhaps in a fit of late-night enthusiasm for pursuing his post-secondary education, has updated his school information on his Facebook profile to indicate that he is currently attending the University of South Carolina. The only problem with this is that McClain is currently committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

"Be careful what you put on Facebook" is normally just annoying advice that your parents give you so that you'll take down that photo of yourself doing a keg stand at a party with some townies that summer between sophomore and junior year. But in this case it appears as though it might have actually had real world consequences. Sort of.

The most damage this could possibly do is tip McClain's hand nine hours earlier than he wanted to as to which school he will sign with. Of course, it's also possible that he's attempting to lead us down the wrong path using extremely subtle tactics. After all, Facebook is nothing if not hotbed for wanton passive-aggression.

And, if you'll notice, his profile picture is an artist rendering of McClain donning the uniform of the school from which he decommitted last week. Of course, the probable explanation is that the kid just hasn't had the right lighting to take a decent selfie in the intervening five days since he reneged on his pledge to Florida State, but if we're reading too much into subtle details on his Facebook page we might as well read into all of them.

Three-star defensive end Blake McClain will announce a decision between South Carolina and Nebraska on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. EST. As late as Monday afternoon, McClain was split '50-50' as to what that decision would be. As of Monday evening, the 6'4, 280-pound lineman has now decided which school he will commit to on National Signing Day but has not revealed whether it will be the Huskers or the Gamecocks.

South Carolina's pursuit of the Ponte Vedra (Fla.) Sandalwood standout appeared to be dead in the water after McClain committed to Nebraska on Feb. 1 following his official visit to Lincoln. Then, on Monday, McClain said that he and his parents went through "a reevaluation of everything" and concluded, "It was very tough... but I think I made the right decision."

McClain is keeping this pretty close to the vest, but there has been significant movement toward South Carolina in his 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions. However, If McClain, the No. 22 strong-side defensive end in the 2014 class, signs with the Gamecocks, he will have done so without having ever set foot in Colulmbia, S.C.

South Carolina continues to have difficulty filling out its 2014 defensive line class.

Three-star defensive end Blake McClain committed to Nebraska on Saturday during his official visit to Lincoln.Following an in-home visit with Steve Spurrier, Jr. on Jan. 30, the 6'3, 257-pound lineman had toyed with the idea of taking his visit to Nebraska as planned and then visiting the Gamecocks some time in the coming weeks before making a decision after National Signing Day. But it appears that McClain liked what Bo Pelini had to sell him to the point that that the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. native decided to go ahead and commit to the Cornhuskers and shut down his recruitment.

The 6'3, 257 defensive end had been reevaluating his options following his decommitment from Florida State on Jan. 30 amid speculation that the new defensive staff was not as high on McClain as former Seminoles defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was. After South Carolina received word that JUCO defensive end commit was unlikely to qualify, pursuing the newly available McClain made a lot of sense for the Gamecocks.

It's unclear at this point where South Carolina will turn to fill out the remainder of its class. The Gamecocks have 17 players currently committed and can take as many as five more prospects in the 2014 class. Most recruiting analysts expect Carolina to secure commitments from four-star defenders Chris Lammons, Wesley Green, and Dexter Wideman, leaving room for up to two additional players.

The Gamecocks remain in touch with Aiken, S.C. quarterback Bo Baldwin, with whom Steve Spurrier and quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus have discussed the possibility of grayshriting. South Carolina has also turned up the heat on three-star tight end and current Minnesota commit Jerry Gibson of Theodore, Ala., who is visiting Columbia this weekend.
