After an opening weekend series victory against UNCG, the Gamecocks (2-1) will play their first midweek game of the season as they host the Charlotte 49ers (2-1). The Gamecocks are 23-8 against Charlotte all-time and this will be the first matchup between the teams since 2008.
Charlotte hosted West Virginia last weekend, and, like the Gamecocks, won the first two games before dropping the series finale on Sunday. The 49ers were a strong offensive team last year and look set to continue that trend this season, as several of their best hitters returned.

Freshman right-hander Sawyer Bridges will start against the 49ers in his debut as a Gamecock. Charlotte will start Matt Horkey, a junior LHP who is making his first appearance of the season. Horkey had a 4.86 ERA in 24 appearances last season.
