Last time out: Carolina defeated Louisiana Tech 85-76 in the season opener for both teams. Sindarius Thornwell was good for 18 points, seven boards and six assists in the victory. This is the first regular-season game for the Crusaders in a contest that is part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational.
Three-Point Preview
- It’s the Crusaders’ opening game of the season after an exhibition game against D2 Assumption, a 63-48 win, on November 3. They finished 15-20 overall (5-13 Patriot League) last year but made a miracle run to the conference tournament title - knocking off traditional league power Lehigh along the way - and dropped Southern in the First Four before falling 91-52 to Oregon in the first round. Regardless, this sets up to be a good matchup for the Gamecocks.
2. The Crusaders return their top three scorers in Robert Champion, Malachi Alexander and Karl Charles. Charles was named to the league’s All-Rookie Team after scoring 10.6 points a game in his freshman season.
3. This is another team that the Gamecocks haven’t played in a while. After beating Louisiana Tech the other night in only the third meeting all-time between the two squads, Carolina and the Crusaders face each other for only the second time, the first game coming 34 years ago.
