Five South Carolina basketball players suspended indefinitely ahead of NIT opener

South Carolina's men's basketball team has suspended five players indefinitely - just hours before their First Round NIT game against High Point

Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

The South Carolina Gamecocks dropped some big news just 90 minutes before their NIT opener against High Point this evening.

According to an official statement from the athletic department, TeMarcus Blanton, Eric Cobb, Jamall Gregory, Chris Silva and Marcus Stroman have been suspended indefinitely from the team due to a conduct issue.

The basketball team's official Twitter account delivered the news earlier this afternoon.

The Gamecocks are set to begin NIT play against the High Point Panthers at 7PM tonight. Fortunately, they will have the services of senior Michael Carrera. Carrera missed two games with a hip injury. With Carrera in the lineup, the Gamecocks will likely have nine players available on their bench. The absence of Blanton and Silva is the most notable of the five; they had averaged 14.8 and 13.3 minutes per game, respectively.

Stay turned to the Garnet & Black Attack for more details as they come in.
