If you follow high school basketball to some degree, you’ve heard the name Zion Williamson. From his high-flying dunks to selling out gyms across the state (read this), the media attention surrounding the Spartanburg Day School superstar has been at a level not seen for a South Carolina player in some time.
While the Gamecocks may have to leapfrog several teams to get on Williamson’s list of finalists, that’s not stopping Frank Martin from launching his own pursuit of the 6’7” forward. Williamson will be on campus today to take an unofficial visit during South Carolina’s Legends Weekend contest against Georgia. He was at Kentucky last weekend in the company of John Calipari as they took on Kansas. And, naturally, Bill Self and the Jayhawks are in on the Williamson sweepstakes; Self traveled up to see him in October.
Martin has missed on some in-state recruits of late as Devontae Shuler (Ole Miss) and Seventh Woods (North Carolina) come to mind, but he can make up for it (and then some) if he’s able to pull off getting Williamson to take his talents to Columbia when it’s all said and done.
