South Carolina lands commitment from forward Wildens Leveque

Frank Martin adds to the 2019 recruiting class.

South Carolina men’s basketball received its second commitment of the 2019 recruiting class as Gould Academy (Mass.) power forward Wildens Leveque pledged to the program on Friday afternoon. Rivals’ Corey Evans was the first to break the news.

According to 247Sports.com, Leveque is a 3-star forward, ranked as the top player in the state of Massachusetts. The 6’10”, 230-pounder looks to become the latest in a line of big men developed under Frank Martin as he spurned VCU and UMass to head down to Columbia.

“How he has used Chris Silva and with how our games are similar, he has helped him evolve and get better and also helped him get closer to the NBA, which is my dream, too,” Leveque told Evans. “I like the team and it is just a good vibe there.”

And it’s that knack for development - not only Silva, but Sindarius Thornwell, Michael Carrera and others - that led Leveque to commit to the Gamecocks. He becomes the second pledge for the program in the class of 2019, joining in-state guard Trae Hannibal (Hartsville) as the other. Carolina now has one open scholarship remaining.
