South Carolina went well outside of its normal recruiting footprint on Sunday evening to nab a commitment from three-star tight end Kyle Markway of Saint Louis (Mo.) St. John Vianney. Markway chose the Gamecocks over offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Memphis, and Kentucky. The 6'4, 225 prospect is the No. 36 tight end and the 1169th-ranked prospect overall in the 2015 class.
I have officially committed to the University of South Carolina! So excited to join the Gamecock family and win a national championship!

Markway doesn't have the kind of star rating or offer sheet that's bound to create buzz on the message boards, but South Carolina relies on a handful of prospects like Markway every year to help fill out its recruiting class and have done a better job of converting them into contributors than most other programs.
Iowa was South Carolina's main competition for Markway, and when you watch his highlights he looks exactly like the kind of tight end that the Hawkeyes have typically had success with in Iowa City.
Markway is the eighth commitment South Carolina has picked up for its 2015 recruiting class. His addition moves the Gamecocks into 14th place nationally in the 247Sports Composite recruiting ranking.
