South Carolina Gamecocks Football Recruiting: Atlanta-area 2016 DE Cecil Stallings commits

Days after Charlotte-area OL Will Putnam pledged to the South Carolina Gamecocks, the team picked up a second verbal this week—this time on the other side of the ball.

It's Atlanta (Ga.) Chamblee DE Cecil Stallings, who gave his word to the staff this afternoon. Stallings, a three-star recruit on Rivals, had Georgia Tech, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin among his eleven offers, but elected to take his talents to Columbia next year.

Stallings' commitment makes him the seventh member of the high school class of 2016 to commit. The team will certainly be looking for depth at the DE position in 2016; they are set to have three redshirt seniors that year (projected 2015 starters Gerald Dixon and Marquavius Lewis and backup Darius English) and will have to deal with a vacancy left by Lewis' apparent backup, Cedrick Cooper. They are still in on a handful of players, including Florida four-star Jordan Woods, but he's thought to be mulling playing his college ball close to home.
