The South Carolina Gamecocks added to their stable of offensive linemen, adding 2016 Dutchtown (La.) offensive guard Lloyd Cushenberry on Thursday evening. Cushenberry announced the news on his Twitter account and chose Carolina over other FBS offers like Arkansas State, Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Purdue and Tulane, among others. The Gamecocks were his only SEC offer, and it appears the opportunity to play in the conference was one of the deciding factors.
"(My family and I) felt like it was a great place for me to continue my education and be apart of a great football program," Cushenberry said of his decision.
Cushenberry has been in contact with Gamecocks special teams coordinator (and LSU alum) Joe Robinson throughout the process. "He and one of my coaches from my high school have been friends for a while and we have a pretty good relationship," he said.
Cushenberry is the 14th player from the class of 2016 to commit to the Gamecocks. He is the third offensive lineman to pledge, joining three-star JUCO product Akeem Cooperwood and two-star Charlotte-area native Will Putnam. While he may not be a big name, big-ticket player, he still figures to contribute to the team once he arrives next year. He certainly brings a great deal of size: 6'4", 310 pounds, so that fact certainly works out in his favor. Are there more commitments to come over the next few days and weeks? We'll see soon.
