The South Carolina Gamecocks are kicking off their home slate today, and several recruits that they've had their eye on will be present.
--At the top of the list is big-time North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester OL John Simpson. Simpson, ranked as the #17 guard in the state of South Carolina in the class of 2016, looks to have Clemson at the top of his list right now and is scheduled to make a decision on or around January 9 at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The Gamecocks would love to add Simpson to an O-line that will feature Akeem Cooperwood, Lloyd Cushenberry and Will Putnam next year.
--Another big-time name that will be present is 2017 Houston County (Ga.) QB Jake Fromm. Fromm is a player that Steve Spurrier promised to stay six more years to watch play if he committed. It's not hard to see why when you consider that Fromm is the #7 QB in his class. (Tight end Will Register is the only 2017 commit thus far for Carolina.)
--2016 athlete Stephen Davis Jr. was originally committed to Auburn before reopening his recruitment and plans to take officials to Carolina, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Clemson before a final decision. Davis, a Tigers legacy and the #2 player in the state, will be taking things in today as well. (He had a big game last night as he ran for 202 yards on 16 carries - and scored seven touchdowns, six on the ground - against Boiling Springs.)
--Asheville (N.C.) 2016 OL Pete Leota will be in the house as well. Leota was at the Virginia Tech/Ohio State game in Blacksburg on Monday and is a strong Gamecocks lean. His decision, which will either be the Gamecocks or the Hokies, will be made on Thursday.
