Former Maryland pledge Aaron Thompson commits to South Carolina Gamecocks on National Signing Day

The one-time Terrapins commit lands with the Gamecocks.

Aaron Thompson, a former Maryland Terrapins commit, signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks today. The move wasn't a surprise, given the fact that Thompson's top two consisted of the Gamecocks and the Terps.

Thompson, a defensive tackle and a product of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard High School, took an official visit on January 29. Like Korey Banks, a former North Carolina commit, Will Muschamp and the staff were able to convince him to switch his pledge and choose the Gamecocks. His NLI was faxed in and approved just moments before 9:00, despite the fact that he was expected to make his decision around 10am. It's yet another defensive piece as Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson aim to improve a defense that struggled week in and week out to keep points off the board in 2015.

Thompson is ranked as a three star by Rivals and is rated as a top 50 defensive tackle.
