Just hours after it was announced that WR D.J. Neal would transfer from South Carolina, the Gamecocks got some good news from JUCO target Stephen Guidry. Guidry, currently enrolled at Hinds Community College in Mississippi, announced on Twitter that he has committed to Carolina and will play for Will Muschamp beginning with the 2017 season.
Guidry, who attended high school at Pointe Coupee Central and Livonia in Louisiana, spurned offers from Georgia, Louisiana-Monroe, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State and Missouri. As a senior, he garnered all-state honors after hauling in 13 touchdowns and 834 yards receiving. He originally signed with McNeese State last year on NSD but ended up redshirting his only season there. Guidry will spend the 2016 season at Hinds CC before enrolling at South Carolina, where he will be eligible to play right away.
The Gamecocks now have two football players committed for the class of 2017. Chapin (S.C.) tight end Will Register pledged back in June, months before Steve Spurrier's resignation from his post as head coach.
