South Carolina football recruiting: WRs Justin Marshall, MJ Jarrell offered; commitment watch at QB?

The Gamecocks hand an Upstate QB his first FBS offer. Plus, an ACC and B1G lean get on the radar.

Things were popping a little in the recruiting department yesterday and are popping even more today. Let's get you caught up:

Big-time DT/OL from NYC offered

The previous staff offered one of the top O-linemen in the country, Isaiah Wilson, last year. They stand a slim chance of landing him, but they are reaching into New York City again in an attempt to woo another big-time talent from the area. It's Matthew Jones from Brooklyn, currently ranked by 247 as the #21 player in the class of 2018. With nine offers right now, he's set to blow up even more.

Strong ACC lean gets the call

Atlanta-area WR Justin Marshall currently has the Louisville Cardinals as his favorite. That didn't stop the Gamecocks from extending an offer his way.

Auburn, Cincinnati, Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia are among the schools that have offered Marshall; Duke is another program that has shown interest in the 6'3", 185 pound junior. He took an unofficial visit to Louisville on the weekend of April 9 and ended up naming them his leader. Back in March, he came out with a top seven, so we'll see if the Gamecocks offer changes things a little.

Fla. WR adds Gamecocks offer

Orlando wideout MJ Jarrell ranks as one of the better players in his region. He announced last night that the Gamecocks had come calling and had extended an offer his way.

Jarrell was recently up at Maryland and currently has them as his favorite ($$). The 6'2", 183-pounder has received a number of ACC and B1G looks of late; Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, and N.C. State have all offered him in the past three weeks.

Commitment watch at QB?

Another day, another quarterback offer for the South Carolina staff. The latest one was to Piedmont High dual-thread signal caller Jay Urich. Urich already has offers from Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Furman, and Harvard, so the Gamecocks represent his first FBS offer (Coastal Carolina's moving up, of course).

Urich was very excited for the offer - saying that it "meant the world" to him and that he wanted to wait until spring ends to "take (it) in". Sounds like a commitment watch to us.
