South Carolina football recruiting: Fla. TE Zach Sheffer "very excited" for Gamecocks offer

We took a few minutes to chat with one of the Gamecocks' most recent offer at tight end.

One of this past weekend's recent offers from the South Carolina Gamecocks football staff went to Nease (Fla.) tight end Zach Sheffer. Sheffer, a 2018 prospect, currently has over a dozen offers, including Auburn, Duke, Michigan, and Tennessee. Since he is a rising junior, he still has a little bit of time to make a decision on where he wants to go to school and is still letting the process work itself out.

"It is hard to say who stands out at the moment because I want to learn more about the schools that have offered me," said Sheffer. "I am looking for a school that has good academics, comfort level with the coaches and the players, game day atmosphere, nice facilities, and overall strong support of the program."

Sheffer's primary recruiter is Gamecocks TE coach Pat Washington, who stopped by Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach (just south of Jacksonville) the other day to meet with him and to extend an offer. Washington is hoping to add a player to the roster that is at home in a few different roles.

"Everyone says that I'm a true hybrid TE," Sheffer said. "All the coaches say they are equally impressed with my blocking and receiving."

As far as a visit to South Carolina, that may not be far off. Sheffer told me that he planned on visiting this summer to meet with Carolina's coaches and players. We'll keep you posted on when exactly when that is, as well as keep an eye on how Sheffer's recruitment proceeds over the coming months.
