JUCO LB Eldridge Thompson commits to South Carolina Gamecocks

Will Muschamp grabs two commitments in one day!

Student Sports

The South Carolina Gamecocks picked up their second commitment of the day as JUCO linebacker Eldridge Thompson pledged to the team this afternoon. Thompson’s commitment was announced moments after Shi Smith, a top-10 wide receiver in the class of 2017, made his long-expected pledge official.

Thompson, a member of the Coffeyville Community College football program, registered a team-high 102 tackles in 2015 to go along with three sacks and four tackles for a loss. Originally from White Station High in Memphis, Thompson is from the same JUCO program as current Gamecocks corner Jamarcus King. He is expected to enroll after the 2016 ends in the fall, putting him on campus in time for spring camp in 2017.

The Gamecocks now have twelve players committed for the class of 2017 - eight offensive players and five defensive players. With summer fast approaching, several more commitments are expected to come the Gamecocks’ way, so there is still plenty of time to beef this class up a little more and attempt to make some headway among some of the more elite names that are still on the board.
