Will Muschamp and the South Carolina Gamecocks made it two cornerbacks from Florida in one day as Lakeland's Damarri Mathis committed to the program earlier today. Mathis joins fellow Floridian Tavyn Jackson, who pledged this morning.

Mathis, who was recruited by Travaris Robinson and Bryan McClendon, was offered by Cincinnati, Ole Miss and Pitt, among others. The 5'11", 175-pounder camped with the Gamecocks earlier this month and left with an offer, and liked what he saw at South Carolina - leading him to commit. Mathis may be a little of an under-the-radar recruit for the Gamecocks, but his stock has reportedly risen over the last few months. He also played for a strong Lakeland program that last season advanced to the regional finals in the state's Class 7A playoffs. We'll see what the ultimate plan is for Mathis during his time with the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks currently have 15 players committed for the class of 2017 - seven defensive players and eight on offense. However, with several players on campus today at Will Muschamp's camp, that number is poised to grow during the next few weeks and months, and certainly as we head into summer.
