Name: Tavyn Jackson
Position: CB
Height/Weight: 5-10 / 176 lbs.
Hometown: Tallahassee, Florida.
Rating: Consensus 3-star.
The 91st ranked CB in the class of 2017, the one-time Auburn lean will hopefully develop into the type of player that will give the Gamecocks a much needed boost in the defensive secondary. After committing in June, and re-affirming his commitment just before Christmas, he has since been making further plans for his career at South Carolina, including a major in Electrical Engineering.
Strengths: From the video (above) he appears to be a true lock-down corner. If he develops quickly, Jackson could see some immediate playing time within the system. One of seven DBs in the 2017 class, look for a rotating cast to emerge that features Jamarcus King, Jaylin Dickerson, and the brightest new talent as Travaris Robinson says he wants to bring a more multi-dimensional look to the pass defense this year.
Weaknesses: as a 5-9/5-10 player and barely 170 pounds, Jackson needs to maximize his training in order to be an impact player for the Gamecocks. He can’t do too much to help his height, but he can bust his rump in the gym. A focus should be strength and speed, as his 4.8 second 40-yd time would put him in the bottom half of the CB’s in this recruiting cycle.
