Name: Sherrod Greene
Position: OLB
Height/Weight: 6’1” / 225 lbs.
Hometown: Rocky Mount, NC
Rating: Consensus 3-star
The Gamecocks staff was able to tap the state of North Carolina to grab a player that might be the heir apparent of Skai Moore and Bryson Allen-Williams at linebacker. Greene was ranked as the country’s #29 OLB according to 247’s composite rankings and ended as a borderline four-star recruit. The Shrine Bowler had offers from schools like Alabama, Cal, Maryland and Virginia Tech before settling on the Gamecocks.
Strengths: He’s quick and can hit pretty hard. His 4.8 40 time isn’t the fastest in the world, but still pretty good for a 225-pound linebacker. Greene finished his junior season with an impressive 154 tackles and 11.0 tackles for loss and was able to appear in back-to-back state title games for Rocky Mount.
Weaknesses: His tackling could use a little bit more work from a technique standpoint. I had a chance to watch his highlight video and while he has a great feel from the game, a few times it looked as if he was looking for the heavy hit when a simple tackle would do. No real glaring examples, but if the staff can work with him on that, then he’ll be just fine. Also, he missed part of his senior season with an arm injury, which shouldn’t be a bad omen for his college career but something to watch.
