Late Wednesday afternoon, South Carolina joined the ever-growing list of Power-5 schools to offer Powder Springs, GA prospect Jaylen McCollough. Ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 3 safety in the 2019 class, McCollough already has a group of suitors including Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Michigan and Georgia, among others.
The sophomore standout does not seem to be phased by the early attention.
“Everyone is equal as of right now,” McCollough said. “My recruiting process is still very young, so a lot can happen.”
On the football field, McCollough prides himself on his ability to contribute in every phase of the game.
“I love contact, but I’m a versatile athlete. I can play anywhere on the field and my football IQ is very high. I’m physical and I play fast.”
At the next level, though, McCollough expects he will spend the majority of his time on defense.
“More than likely [I will play] defensive back. Anywhere in the secondary.”
Where that will be is anyone’s guess right now, including McCollough’s, but he does know what he is looking for in a college.
“Tradition. The coaches and people have to feel right and the school just has to be like a second home.”
And of course, McCollough had some kind words for Gamecock nation.
“Thanks for the love you show, continue to be excited and continue to show love. Spurs Up.”
