The Final Cockdown: #48, Dexter Wideman

Key early-enrollment prospect looks to make immediate contribution to Gamecocks' D-Line.

Dexter Wideman

Freshman, Defensive Tackle

6-foot-4 / 302 lbs.

Saluda, SC (Saluda/Camden Military)

Recruitment:

4-star prospect, 165th player overall in 2014 class. Top prep school recruit in the country according to ESPN.

Offers from - Florida State, others.

-he's #78 in the video, btw.

2015 Outlook:

Originally a firm commitment to the 'Noles, Wideman flipped in February of 2014 to South Carolina. Wideman spent the fall at Camden Military Academy in order to bring his grades up to speed, and finally enrolled at USC in January. He also spent a great deal of time in the weight room, adding almost 50 pounds to his somewhat average 6'4"/255 frame. Despite a fairly experienced defensive line that features the Dixon brothers, Phillip Dukes, David Johnson, Cedrick Cooper, Darius English, and others, the Gamecocks setup under Coach Jon Hoke will likely feature some new faces this year. The addition of Wideman and Marquavis Lewis as (somewhat) experienced transfers offers some bright hope for a group that went through one of the darkest patches in Gamecock defensive history last year. Look for Wideman to fill roles all over the place as Hoke and the players look to turn the tables and improve on a less-than-stellar 2014 season.

Trivia:

Can you name another Gamecock that had success after transferring from Camden Military Academy?

Forever to Thee,
