The Final Cockdown: #47, Drew Williams

Let's meet one of the unsung heroes of the 2015 Gamecocks team.

Drew Williams

Junior / Long Snapper

6-foot-2 / 204 lbs.

Irmo, SC (Dutch Fork)

Recruitment:

Joined program as a walk-on in summer 2013. No offers of note.

College Career:

Has played in every game over his first two years at Carolina as the long-snapper in punting situations. Has two solo tackles to his name. Named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll multiple times. Most Improved special teams long snapper in the spring.

2015 Outlook:

Will continue to handle punting situations for the Gamecocks, but will add field goal snaps to his list of on-field duties this year. While this seems like a mundane task, remember that the most integral step of any process is the first step. The special teams will be heavily dependent on the manual dexterity of Drew Williams this year. MIND THE LACES, DREW!

Potpurri:

In his spare time, Williams seems just like any other special teams football player.

-the REAL question is, can he actually play?

Trivia:

Williams also played quarterback and wideout while a football player at Dutch Fork. Part of me wants to see a little Spurrier trickeration dealt in the form of a fake punt or fake field goal with Drew Williams playing the lead role. Can you name the last significant fake special teams play that the HBC called in Columbia?
