The Final Cockdown: #25, Darin Smalls

Let's get to know the blue-chip cornerback from Summerville.

Darin Smalls

Freshman, Cornerback

5'11" / 190 lbs.

Summerville (S.C.)

Recruitment:

Consensus three-star recruiting prospect. Rated the 53rd best cornerback in the country by Scout.

Offers from Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, Florida St., Tennessee, several others.

College Career:

Darin Smalls originally signed with the Gamecocks in 2014; however, he did not enroll in school until January 2015 because of an academic issue. He did not participate in team drills this spring as he is still rehabbing an ACL injury suffered in the third game of his final high school season.

2015 Outlook:

Darin Smalls is looking like a redshirt option this year. He's currently listed as the third option at spur going into the fall, and with limited work under his belt aside from rehab, his focus will likely be on maintaining his health, learning the system, and keeping his grades in check. During his high school career, he was regarded as one of the most explosive defensive backs in the country. Hopefully another year to strengthen and train in the system will allow him to hit the field running full-speed in 2016.

Trivia:

Darin Smalls' alma mater, Summerville High School, is among the most legendary football programs in the secondary school world. Can you name the (arguably) most famous Gamecock alumni that also hailed from Summerville?
