The South Carolina Gamecocks will take on FCS opponent Western Carolina this afternoon at 4pm in Williams-Brice Stadium. With a win, the Gamecocks will reach bowl eligibility for the first time since 2014, so all eyes will be on Jake Bentley and his team to see if they’ll be able to reach that mark.
The 2-8 Catamounts face their second FBS opponent of the season. On September 3, they suffered a 52-7 defeat at the hands of East Carolina. If we’re applying the transitive property, the Gamecocks beat East Carolina 20-15 - that’s not really relevant to this particular game, of course, but it’s something to point out, at least. In any event, the Gamecocks (who lost to an FCS team last year in The Citadel) are looking to take care of business today at Williams-Brice before the big showdown at Memorial Stadium next week against Clemson and, ideally, they’d love to have that sixth in their pocket already as opposed to having to beat a heavily favored Tigers squad for it.
