The drawbacks of a closed practice is that you don't learn of specific things, i.e. injuries, until a few days after they occur. Such is the case with South Carolina quarterback Lorenzo Nuñez, who apparently injured his leg in Saturday's practice - sealed off to all media and the public - and might be lost for the spring.
Nuñez' injury may mean the quarterback battle is now essentially down to three names - Connor Mitch, Perry Orth, and newcomer Brandon McIlwain. It's a bit of a shame because fans (me included) were looking forward to seeing what he could do in the new offensive sets put together by offensive coordinator Kurt Roper. As for the university, they aren't saying much.
Depending on the seriousness of the injury, Nuñez - a true sophomore in the fall - will be significantly behind the curve if he's lost for the spring, and will have a lot of ground to make up even if he is able to come back in a few months. But without the university stating outright what happened, we're only left to speculate. More to come if and when it's announced.
