The Final Cockdown: #93, Shameik Blackshear.

Can the highly touted recruit recover from his own wounds and heal the Gamecocks' defense this fall?

Shameik Blackshear

Sophomore
6'4" / 250 lbs.
Bluffton, SC

Recruitment

4-Star prospect from the 2015 class. Listed as the fifth-best player in the state, and 18th best DE in the country. Offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida St., Georgia, and others.

College Career

Limited to two games this past year as Blackshear was recovering from a knee injury suffered in his final high school season. Logged one solo tackle and one assisted tackle against the Missouri Tigers.

2016 Outlook

Blackshear, initially viewed as one of the best defensive gets of last year's recruiting class, has had his difficulties since enrolling last fall. Coming off of a severe knee injury that kept him from competing in the second half of his Senior season of high school, he has been limited to say the least in his on-field time. If that wasn't enough, he was shot last offseason in the chest and has since been recovering from those wounds. He is expected to be ready for the fall despite missing spring workouts. We can't be sure if he's going to be healthy or tested enough to make an impact on the Gamecocks defense this year, but it would sure be nice to see his potential realized on the field.
