The Gamecocks began their five-game road trip in Clemson on Wednesday night and earned their 6th win in a row over the Tigers. Though Clemson leads the overall series, the Gamecocks have dominated the rivalry over the last decade.
The Tigers scored first, but the Gamecocks didn't trail again after they got their first points of the game to make it 3-2. South Carolina led 20-9 after the first quarter, and they had that lead thanks to their ability to capitalize on their opportunities and get 11 points off of 8 Clemson turnovers. The Gamecocks had a long cold spell on offense during the 2nd quarter and the entire first half was sloppy for South Carolina, but they went to halftime up 31-20.
The Gamecocks looked much more impressive in the 3rd quarter. They stretched their lead to 19 points in the first 3 minutes and within five minutes they doubled up the Tigers with a score of 50-25. South Carolina outscored Clemson 27-8 in the 3rd to go to the final quarter of the game up 58-28. The Gamecocks continued to cruise through the 4th quarter and finished with a 67-41 victory.
Tiffany Mitchell led the Gamecocks in scoring with 18 points, followed by Alaina Coates with 10 and Sarah Imovbioh with 9. Imovbioh lead the team in rebounds with 6, and this the first game of the season with no double-doubles from the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks return to action at UCLA at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday.
