Strong second half powers Gamecocks to victory

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Despite a slow start, the Gamecocks earned a home victory over the Pirates to improve to 10-0 and extend their win streak at Colonial Life Arena to 39 games.

Though the Gamecocks never trailed the Pirates, the team got off to a slow start and shot poorly for the entire first half. South Carolina carried at 30-18 lead into halftime, but came out looking much better in the second half and stretched the lead to 59-38. A fourth quarter where they outscored the Pirates 27-10 sealed the 86-48 victory.

Alaina Coates had her fourth double-double of the season, leading the Gamecocks in points with 22 and in rebounds with 12. Sarah Imovbioh also had a strong night, with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Tiffany Mitchell was right behind her with 17 points and 6 rebounds. The Gamecocks were without A'ja Wilson for the second game in a row, but she is expected to return for the next game.

The Gamecocks will be back in action on Sunday December 16th when they face East Carolina in Myrtle Beach at 1 p.m.
