It was a thriller last season.
South Carolina's Aj'a Wilson hit a shot with just 1.8 seconds left as South Carolina beat Duke 51-50 in Durham. And even though the game was played away from Columbia, it felt almost like a home game as Gamecock fans showed up in droves.
And now, a year later, a near sell out crowd at Colonial Life Arena will create a frenzied atmosphere as the second ranked Gamecocks welcome in the #13 Blue Devils.
Duke comes into the game at 7-1 on the year and winners of their last five. Azura Simmons has five double doubles on the year and has scored in double figures in 23 straight games.
South Carolina, while still undefeated, is still trying to find their footing early on in 2015. They went 3-0 in Hawaii but struggled at times and will look to have a quick start against Duke.
Dawn Staley and company will be playing their first home game in nearly a month after travelling to California to face UCLA and playing in a tournament in Hawaii. The Gamecocks had the best attendance in the country a year ago, and with a likely sell out today, they will feed off the home court advantage.
And while they were not overly impressive in a handful of their games, South Carolina has still won.
It says a great deal about a team to struggle to find your identity but still win while doing so. And that is exactly what South Carolina has done this year.
No matter how you slice it, a win is a win. And if South Carolina can keep that trend going today, then that's all fans can ask for.
