#2 South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Auburn Tigers
When: Thursday, January 21st at 7 pm
Where: Auburn, AL
How to watch: SEC Network+ (WatchESPN.com)
Three-Point Preview
1. For the first time in four games, South Carolina isn't going up against a ranked opponent. Auburn is 2-3 in SEC play thus far and 12-6 overall, but don't let that fool you. They defeated a Kentucky team that gave the Gamecocks everything they wanted and then some to open the SEC schedule. Auburn is led by guard Brandy Montgomery who is tied as the third-best scorer in the SEC at 17.1 points per game.
2. A'ja Wilson is on a tear. Wilson was just named to her fourth SEC Player of the Week award for the year and the ESPN W National Player of the Week. Over her last two games - both against ranked opponents - Wilson is averaging 26 points, 10.5 rebounds and 8 blocks per game. While Alaina Coates has slowed down low, Wilson has picked up the slack and provided the boost to keep the Gamecocks undefeated.
3. The Gamecocks haven't lost to Auburn in the last three seasons, but the Tigers have typically played tough. Aside from last year's 19 point victory, South Carolina won by single digits, and before 2012, they had lost to the Tigers in back-to-back seasons. Dawn Staley's squad catches a break going up against an unranked opponent, but that won't last long. After Thursday, the Gamecocks travel to Starkville to take on #10 Mississippi St.
