The Gamecocks (6-1) will be back in Colonial Life Arena today for the first time since they beat Saint Peter’s at home on November 22nd. Carolina ended their three-game stretch on the road with a loss to Duke last Sunday, then had the week off for exams.
Start Time: 3 p.m.
How to Watch: SEC Network
How to Listen: 107.5 The Game
The Gamecocks lead the all-time series with Minnesota 3-1 and are 2-0 against the Golden Gophers in Columbia. Minnesota (7-3) enters today’s game on a three-game winning streak, and their losses to Georgia, UNC, and #7 Florida State all came in late November.
The leading scorer for the Golden Gophers is Carlie Wagner, who is averaging 20.7 ppg. Minnesota has two other players, Kenisha Bell (16.8 ppg) and Gadiva Hubbard (15.3 ppg), in the top 14 in the Big Ten in scoring. The next highest scorer for the Gophers, Jessie Edwards, averages 7.3 ppg and leads Minnesota in rebounds, averaging 8 per game. Edwards also leads the team in blocks with 25 for the season and she leads the Big Ten in blocks per game with 2.5.
The Golden Gophers have been good offensively, but weaker on defense, and they’ll be hard-pressed to keep up with the Gamecocks or to hold Carolina in check. The Gamecocks are looking to bounce back from last week’s loss and continue the tradition of strong home performances in the Dawn Staley era.
