The Gamecocks continued their seesawing between wins and losses, this time suffering an 85-73 defeat on the road to No. 1 Tennessee. The Vols, which swept the season series, were once again too much offensively for South Carolina to handle, with five players hitting double figures as they shot 49 percent from the floor. The Gamecocks’ inability to get some stops spoiled what was an incredible shooting night from 3, in which USC made a whopping 14 of its 23 attempts. Tre Campbell had a season-best 19 points to lead the Gamecocks, while Chris Silva notched a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Hassani Gravett posted 15 points off four of six 3-pointers. While the loss was expected, it was at least more competitive this time around, and it was good to see Silva and Gravett get back into action after a couple of quieter games from them.

What to watch for

Texas A&M had a brutal start to SEC play, going 1-8 with a victory at Alabama before finally picking up back-to-back wins last week against Georgia and Mizzou. (The Aggies did, however, win their Big 12/SEC Challenge matchup against Kansas State in the midst of their SEC slump.) TJ Starks paces the Aggies with 12.9 points per game, and Wendell Mitchell (12.5) and Savion Flagg (11.7, team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game) are also in double figures. The Gamecocks have a good chance to bounce back here, but A&M is on a bit of a roll.
