South Carolina vs. Utah Valley: Weekend Preview

Hopefully the weather doesn’t get in the way.

The South Carolina Gamecocks (hopefully) return to the diamond today for a series against Utah Valley after soggy weather forced the cancellation of a midweek contest against Presbyterian. Previously, the Gamecocks pulled off a wild rally to top Winthrop 8-6 on Tuesday, and took two games from Liberty in last weekend’s season-opening series to come away with the win.

South Carolina is expected to stick with the same starting pitching rotation it used against the Flames: sophomore right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski (0-0, 6.23 ERA, 4.1 IP, 3 BB, 3 SO), freshman lefty Dylan Harvey (0-0, 16.88 ERA, 2.2 IP, 5 BB, 5 SO), and junior right-hander Reid Morgan (0-0, 1.50 ERA, 6.0 IP, 0 BB, 3 SO).

Utah Valley, which hails from the WAC, was picked to finish ninth out of ten teams in the preseason conference poll. Last weekend, the Wolverines avoided a sweep at Fresno State, and will likely run out the same three starters: senior right-hander Jake Carr (0-1, 6.75 ERA, 4.0 IP, 2 BB, 8 SO), junior righty Paxton Schutlz (0-0, 3.86 ERA, 7.0 IP, 2 BB, 7 SO), and senior right-hander Walker Ramsey (0-1, 5.68 ERA, 6.1 IP, 3 BB, 5 SO).

Game 1: Friday, 4 p.m.

Game 2: Saturday, 2 p.m.

Game 3: Sunday, 1:30 p.m.

Watch: All three games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.

Listen: All three games will be broadcast on 107.5 The Game.

This is the first meeting between the Gamecocks and the Wolverines.
