It’s been a busy season on the hardwood so far, but don’t forget about baseball! The Yardcocks are roughly a week away from returning to the diamond, and have been slated for a fourth-place finish in the SEC’s Eastern Division, as selected by the league’s coaches earlier this week.
Vanderbilt was picked to win both the division and the conference championship. Florida (second) and Georgia (third) were chosen ahead of the Gamecocks in the East.
Sophomore second baseman Noah Campbell landed a first-team All-SEC nod, the lone Gamecock to receive such an honor. Campbell, one of the few veterans on the squad, batted .270 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 2018.
The Gamecocks are entering their second season under head coach Mark Kingston, and coming off a 37-26 (17-13 SEC) campaign that saw them reach the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament before falling just short of Omaha. While South Carolina finished in or around the Top 15 in multiple polls, it starts the 2019 campaign unranked after some key personnel losses.
South Carolina’s season begins on Feb. 15 with a three-game weekend series against Liberty in Columbia.
