After a couple weeks of drama and furious spinning of the rumor mill, it appears South Carolina has made its choice and will hire Oklahoma assistant head coach Shane Beamer as the man to lead its football program.

Beamer, 43, was long considered the frontrunner in the process, especially when several former players advocated loudly on his behalf. Beamer was the recruiting coordinator under the legendary Steve Spurrier, and the driving assumption is that he can bring that winning culture back to Columbia.

On the other hand, Beamer lacks coordinating and head coach experience, which will surely make him a divisive choice among the South Carolina faithful. Louisville's Scott Satterfield, Louisiana's Billy Napier, and Coastal Carolina's Jamey Chadwell were among the other candidates.
