Were you bummed when rain washed out yesterday’s game against Winthrop? Well, South Carolina gets another crack at an in-state opponent when Presbyterian comes to Columbia this afternoon.
The Gamecocks got 2020 off to a good start, sweeping Holy Cross in their season-opening series this past weekend. (It was, incredibly, the program’s first season-opening sweep since 2016.) The Blue Hose didn’t fare as well, suffering a sweep at the hands of Eastern Kentucky and not mounting much of a challenge throughout the weekend.
PC will send right-hander Grayson Stoneking to the mound against the Gamecocks, who sports a 0-0 record and 27.00 ERA with three strikeouts. (Yes, you read that correctly.) South Carolina is expected to counter with fellow right-hander and redshirt sophomore Thomas Farr, who hasn’t pitched yet this season.
The Gamecocks lead PC 9-2 in the all-time series, although the Blue Hose bested South Carolina in the teams’ most recent meeting in 2018. Today is pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski’s birthday, though, so winning is the only option.
