Following a pair of visits to Columbia over the past week, three-star cornerback Jaire Alexander of Charlotte (N.C.) Rocky River committed South Carolina on Monday. The 5'11, 170-pound cornerback is one of several prospects who picked up an offer at USC's one-day camp on June 13.

Until recently, Alexander only had offers from FCS schools and lower-tier FBS programs like Marshall, Temple, and Toledo, but he had to begun to draw interest from bigger schools in recent weeks, picking up offers from Louisville and Kansas State in addition to South Carolina. Right now, Alexander is ranked as the No. 82 cornerback prospect in the 2015 class according to the 247Sports Composite index.
Alexander joins fellow North Carolinian Mark Fields in the Gamecocks' 2015 cornerback haul. South Carolina is also in excellent shape with Damon Arnette, a three-star prospect from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas who is expected to announce his decision on Monday or Tuesday of this week.
Alexander is the 16th player to commit to South Carolina's 2015 class, which is holding steady at No. 6 according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. In addition to what he brings to the table as a defensive back, the South Carolina coaching staff also likes what he can do with the ball in his hands on special teams. After watching his junior highlights, it's not hard to see why.
