South Carolina football recruiting: Florida DE Keir Thomas commits

Will Muschamp gets a Christmas present from a Sunshine State recruit.

The commitment watch doesn't stop for South Carolina coach Will Muschamp. Not even on Christmas Day.

While we were all chowing down on turkey and opening presents, Miami (Fla.) Central three-star defensive end Keir Thomas was busy presenting Muschamp with a gift of his own: his commitment to the Gamecocks. Thomas becomes the 17th player to commit to the program and is the third in six days.

Thomas is ranked #49 among all players in the Sunshine State according to Rivals and is considered the #22 strongside DE in the country; 247 has him at #18 among all SDEs and 59th in the state regardless of position. Along with South Carolina, Thomas's offers include Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee and West Virginia. With the Tigers among his offers, it's evident that Muschamp was working on Thomas during his time in the Plains - and was able to get his man after coming to Columbia.

The week in recruiting has been a busy one for Muschamp. On Monday, he gained a commitment from Fort Dorchester (S.C.) wideout Diondre Champaigne. Wednesday brought a pledge from two-way player Javon Kinlaw. And while the Gamecocks add to their stable of players for the 2016 class, they'll soon turn their eyes to the class of 2017, where they already hold a commitment from four-star tight end Will Register.
