Last game
The Gamecocks got back in the win column with a solid 77-65 victory over Arkansas that, all things considered, was rather unexpected. As it’s done a few times this season, South Carolina worked some late-game magic and turned a 13-point deficit into a 12-point win, thanks to its dynamic freshman duo of A.J. Lawson (24 points) and Keyshawn Bryant (17). Chris Silva turned in a solid performance as well, putting up 16 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Most impressively, the Gamecocks were 10-of-15 from 3-point land. Not a bad day at the office after a tough start.
What to watch for
Trap game, maybe? Hopefully?? The Vols are set for a huge showdown against No. 5 Kentucky on Saturday, but they’ll have to get through our Gamecocks first. In the two teams’ previous meeting, Tennessee handled South Carolina 92-70 after an ill-timed Gamecock scoring drought helped torpedo a reasonably competitive effort. It’ll be tougher in Knoxville, of course, where Tennessee is undefeated and still cruising through its SEC schedule without much angst. The Vols are riding what feels like a gazillion-game winning streak, having most recently picked up victories against Missouri and Florida. We’ll see what the Gamecocks can bring with them tonight.
