The South Carolina Gamecocks close out a turbulent March this weekend when they welcome the Auburn Tigers to Columbia.
The Gamecocks are coming off a frankly stunning 2-0 midweek loss to N.C. A&T — the less that’s said about that game, the better, really. That defeat followed a series loss at Tennessee, where the Gamecocks fell to the Vols in the rubber match as both teams battled for their first conference victories of the year.
As for Auburn, the Tigers (20-5) are coming off a 6-3 midweek defeat to rival Alabama, and previously dropped a weekend series at No. 4 Mississippi State.
South Carolina has shaken up its pitching rotation once again, searching for consistency among its young staff. Freshman right-hander Daniel Lloyd (2-1, 4.32 ERA, 7 BB, 9 SO) will get the start on Friday after solid spot duty against Clemson and The Citadel earlier this month. Junior right-hander and staff rock Reid Morgan (2-0, 2.56 ERA, 4 BB, 34 SO) takes the mound on Saturday, while Sunday’s starter has yet to be determined.
The Tigers will counter with sophomore righty Tanner Burns (3-0, 1.41 ERA, 8 BB, 52 SO), freshman southpaw Brooks Fuller (1-0, 1.62 ERA, 12 BB, 10 SO), and are also waiting to make a decision for Sunday.
Game 1: Friday, 7 p.m.
Game 2: Saturday, 1 p.m.
Game 3: Sunday, Noon
Watch: Friday’s game is available on SEC Network Plus, while Saturday’s and Sunday’s will be aired on SEC Network.
