A few bits of news for today. My Southern Miss. preview is nearing completion, so stay tuned for that.
Quarterback Gray will stay at UGA | UGA sports blog. UGA quarterback Logan Gray, after considering the possibility of transferring to another school for the past few weeks, has decided to remain a Bulldog. So much for the latest crisis in Athens.
King has second heart procedure | GoGamecocks. Jarriel King had another minor heart procedure to address his irregular beat. Best wishes from GABA.
Andy Katz's Preseason Top 25: Defending champ Duke will start new season No. 1 - ESPN. The most curious thing here, to me, is that Katz has UGA at 25th. Look, I have no doubt that UGA will be good next year. They return some talent and Mark Fox is, by all appearances, an excellent coach. At the same time, though, the SEC East will by all appearances be a brutal division next year, with every team fielding decent squads. It's going to be an uphill battle for all teams not named Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Other than that, I would mostly agree with Katz's appraisal of the SEC, although I wouldn't be surprised if Kentucky is again the best team when all is said and done. Florida looks very solid, but I have trouble believing they're going to be that much better next year.
