You've heard this story before, but I'll tell it again, just for giggles: Tennessee beat South Carolina this evening. The score was 73-64. Extremely poor shooting had a lot to do with the loss. Bruce Ellington led Carolina with 19 points, but he shot 6-20 / 2-9. Somehow, Damien Leonard got more minutes than Brenton Williams, despite the fact that Leonard contributed almost nothing to our cause, while Williams had another stellar game off the bench. On the defensive end, we played poor perimeter defense, allowing the Vols to shoot .500 from beyond the arc.
I keep wanting to believe that this team is getting better, but after watching the guys do the same things week in and week out, and after watching the same inexplicable coaching decisions made on a nightly basis, it's become an exercise in futility. And the scary thing is that we won't have Malik Cooke next year.
I will say that the press looked good tonight. But the fact that we were +11 in TO margin and lost by nine says all you need to know about how bad this team is. It takes a particularly bad team to pull that off.
