South Carolina sets up home-and-home series with Virginia Tech

The branching out continues.

The South Carolina Gamecocks’ effort to diversify their ACC football opponents took another step on Wednesday afternoon, as they agreed to a home-and-home series with the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Hokies will come to Columbia on Sept. 16, 2034, while South Carolina makes the return trip to Blacksburg on Sept. 15, 2035.

The Gamecocks hold an 11-7-2 lead in the all-time series and are on a two-game winning streak against Tech, although the teams haven’t played since 1991.

In terms of resources, recent level of success, fan passion, and general culture, these programs are a pretty good fit, I’d say. (Hokiebird and Cocky look kind of like long-lost cousins, too.) It’s a long time from now, so you never know if a contract like this will come to fruition or just end up getting bought out, but I’d personally love to go see USC play in Blacksburg.
