Last game
South Carolina, which had been mired in a three-game slump and looked simply exhausted as the season winds to a close, perked up and handled Texas A&M 71-54 in a much-needed and frankly surprising road victory. Chris Silva was the standout for USC, posting 22 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, as the Gamecocks led for the majority of the contest and sank 57 percent of their 3-pointers to sweep the Aggies. Hassani Gravett (17 points) and Keyshawn Bryant (15) completed the double-figure scoring for South Carolina.
What to watch for
Earlier this season, the Gamecocks topped the Bulldogs 86-80 in Athens, as both A.J. Lawson and Chris Silva went for 19 points and helped hold off a couple furious Georgia rallies. South Carolina is still without the injured Lawson — he won’t return until possibly the SEC Tournament — but thankfully Silva is coming off that monster performance against A&M.
Georgia has continued to have a rough go of it under new coach Tom Crean, as the Bulldogs have lost four of their past five and were laboring under a nine-game losing streak until their win over Florida last week. (Georgia’s only other league win this season came against Vanderbilt.) Nicolas Claxton leads UGA with 13 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Silva, Gravett, and Tre Campbell will be honored on Senior Day before the game. If South Carolina wins this afternoon, the Gamecocks will match a program-best 11 SEC victories — and notch a sixth straight dub over Georgia. Let’s do this.
