Aliyah Boston becomes unanimous Freshman of the Year

Another honor for the rookie.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MAR 08 SEC Women’s Tournament - Mississippi State vs South Carolina

The postseason awards continued to roll in for the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team on Wednesday, as rookie forward Aliyah Boston picked up another Freshman of the Year honor.

This one comes from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and joins her previous awards won from ESPN and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, making her the unanimous Freshman of the Year.

Boston enjoyed an incredible 2019-20 campaign for South Carolina and it started from her very first game, in which she became the first women’s basketball player to put up a triple-double in her debut. The 6-foot-5 forward finished the season with 13 double-doubles, averaging 12.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, and racked up 86 blocks (good for 21st nationally) while sporting a sixth-best .608 field goal percentage.

Boston is also a finalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, announcing this week, and the Lisa Leslie Award, which will name its winner next week.
