The Daily Feed: Tuesday, December 18th

Shon Carson will play in the Outback Bowl, Lou Holtz "earns" a postgraduate degree, and a little bit of crootin' news.

During last week's press conference, Steve Spurrier equivocated to a degree when asked about Carson's status for the bowl game, but Sands' statement would seemingly confirm previous reports that Shon Carson has no interest in pursuing a potential sixth year of eligibility.

Presumably, Carson would be third on the depth chart behind Kenny Miles and Mike Davis, and his availability for the Outback Bowl ensures that the Gamecocks won't have to burn Brandon Wilds' redshirt if Miles and Davis get dinged up, as they did during the Wofford game.

USC makes Lou Holtz a real doctor
The University of South Carolina awards Lou Holtz an honorary doctorate of education. Is this something we should be proud of? I honestly can't tell.

Tommy Sanders announcement update (The Big Spur, subscription required)
JUCO LB Tommy Sanders will make his announcement on Wednesday night. Sanders made an official visit to South Carolina last weekend.

Tennessee and North Carolina Offer Drew Barker (subscription required)
As we've noted before, Barker is the Gamecocks' top target at QB. This was previously thought to be a fight between South Carolina and Ohio State. Will these offers change things?

Kendal Vickers aiming for June enrollment (subscription required)
Kendal Vickers committed to the Gamecocks with the knowledge that he'd likely have to spend a semester at Fork Union, but he's working hard in the class room to avoid that.
