South Carolina vs. Mercer game 2 recap: Gamecocks blank Bears 4-0, win series

This is USC’s first shutout of the season

South Carolina wrapped up another series victory on Saturday, staying undefeated despite another day of cooler offensive production.

The Gamecocks got on the board early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, Josiah Sightler went yard to make it 1-0, Then with two outs, David Mendham, Andrew Eyster, and Braylen Wimmer all walked, before Joe Satterfield came through with a two-run double.

The only other run of the game came in the seventh inning, when Brady Allen singled to start things off, then later scored on a Mendham RBI double.

USC starter Brannon Jordan had a really strong performance, working five innings and allowing just one hit and zero runs, while walking three batters and striking out 11, a career high. He earned the win and is 1-0. Jackson Phipps, Will Sanders, and Brett Kerry also pitched in this game. Bears starter Taylor Lobus took the loss and is now 1-2. Allen led the Gamecocks at the plate with two hits, while Satterfield tallied two RBI.

With the win, South Carolina improves to 9-0 on the season, while Mercer drops to 3-6. The Cocks will go for the sweep on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for noon at Founders Park. Julian Bostic is set to start on the mound for the home team.
