Goose Creek's Gerald Turner commits to Gamecocks at Junior Day

The Gamecock football team had several highly rated prospects on campus today to take in the second scrimmage of spring practice. One of those prospects, LB/DE prospect Gerald Turner out of Goose Creek, tweeted that he has committed to South Carolina:

Rivals ranks Turner as the 13th best inside linebacker prospect in the country and gives him a four star rating. 247 Sports gives him a high 3 star rating and ranks him as the country's 26th best inside linebacker prospect. Here's a highlight video of Turner:

Turner is the second player to commit to Steve Spurrier's program in as many days. Turner joins JUCO DE Alfy Hill and Dillon High Shool offensive lineman D.J. Park as the third verbal commitment in the 2013 class.

Other notes from Junior Day:

Four Star QB Connor Mitch (also from Raleigh but a different high school) was offered a scholarship. Mitch is the first quarterback the Gamecocks have offered since they missed out on Christian Hackenberg, who committed to Penn State last month.

The Gamecocks had previously offered big time linebacker prospect Matt Rolin as a tight end. Rolin has several ties to the University of South Carolina, but the decision not to offer him as a linebacker appeared to dampen his enthusiasm for the offer. That has changed after Rolin was told this weekend that he could play either linebacker or tight end for the Gamecocks. Though a decision does not appear imminent, Rolin told Phil Kornblut that his trip to Columbia was the best visit he's been on so far.
