Gamecock Football
The Daily Gamecock: Practice notebook: Swearinger takes on a new role.
Greenville News: Quuuuuaaaaaaaaaaa-zam! Gamecocks' Gilchrist glad to back on offense. I have a really good feeling about Qua this year. And who's going to be happier having him taking on the blocking - Connor or Marcus? Plus - Gamecocks' Shaw healthy, ready to go.
NBC Sports: Brandon Wilids out two weeks with ankle injury.
Sports Talk Radio: Spurrier confirms Royster’s departure from the team. Plus two walk-ons get great news.
Gamecock Central: Post-practice video. Lots of praise for Vanderbilt and James Franklin, but pretty tight-lipped about Sheldon Royster.
Gamecock Anthem: Practice report: by David Porter. You can skip the first 'graph if you've got enough Sheldon Royster news; the second paragraph says freshman T.J. Gurley may see some p.t. now - according to Grady Brown, they have to pull T.J. from practice because "In certain situations he compromises the health of the receivers."
Spur of the Moment: Royster transferring; Wilds (ankle) out 2-3 more weeks, could redshirt; CBs Christian/Legree both will play. You can also skip Darryl's first section - except he gets some quotes from DB position coach Grady Brown that shine more light on Sheldon's situation, and Darryl also does a good job of giving the skinny on our available numbers for the Vandy game. The other notes are definitely worth your time - you get the sense that there aren't going to be as many redshirts this year as some of us might have expected a couple of weeks ago.
David Cloninger: Tweets that former Razorback WR Kane Whitehurst has walked-on at USC. The sophomore from Alpharetta, Georgia had been released by John L. Smith in May after a pot arrest. Hopefully he can get back on track at Carolina. Kane is cousins with Carolina-slayer Charlie Whitehurst (currently the highest-paid clipboard holder in the NFL, and - no - I am not mocking him. I am jealous). Also - Akeem Auguste's little brother Kareem has walked on too.
Bleacher Report: 2012 Season Preview for the Gamecocks (slides) and South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt: Marcus Lattimore, Props and Predictions (straight article).
Aiken Standard: USC freshmen ready to contribute by Darryl Slater.
O'Burg Times & Democrat: Connor the communicator: Taking more vocal leadership role priority for Carolina quarterback by David Cloninger.
Anderson Independent-Mail: Adams among USC freshmen who could see action in opener.

Get the Picture: The Senator posts Not your regular SEC preseason predictions, 2012 version. I'm surprised he mentioned the "s" word in connection with both Georgia and South Carolina. Didn't he get the memo that (a) UGA has as tough a sked as anybody and/or (b) the schedule doesn't matter and/or (c) only Gamecocks think that scheduling has any relevance? I'll go ahead and make sure you get another copy of that memo.
Gamecocks in the NFL
Buffalo Low Down Blog: Stephon Gilmore Injury Update: Just Cramps .
ESPN: Alshon Jeffery ready for impact.
Seattle Times: WR Sidney Rice is starting to cement his come-back with the Seahawks - despite having just one reception against the Chiefs; his improving health is probably one of the main reasons that Seattle dumped Terrell Owens(from last week).
GoUpstate.com: Bad break (literally) for the Ravens' Emmanuel Cook - Former Gamecock Cook breaks leg.
CBS Sports: Chargers: Melvin Ingram, Ryan Mathews plan to play in opener. Looks like the thigh injury won't hold the big fella back.
Loose Feed
Al.com: What kind of football program is Auburn coach Gene Chizik running? Is this the sort of problem that will get Gene Chizik fired? Nah.
TSN: Auburn backsliding post-Cam Newton. This sort of thing will get him fired - and quickly - however.
Athens Banner-Herald: UGA players are talking about a BCS championship run - and CMR seems down with it.
