Clowney, Quarles, Cooper, Moore, and Shaw named by various entities

Tis the season to roll out All-American teams, and several Gamecocks making appearances.

• Defensive end and sentient Sammy Hagar song Jadeveon Clowney was named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America first team (2nd consecutive season) and the Walter Camp All-America second team. Credit the compilers for looking beyond the statsheet and recognizing Clowney's unquantifiable value to the SEC's third-best defense.

• Speaking of Clowney's unquantifiable value, linemate Kelcy Quarles was named to Sporting News All-America first team, the Associated Press All-America second team, the CBSSports.com second team, and received an honorable mention from SI.com. (By the way, Quarles was snubbed by SBNation's All-America team. What gives, Mothership?)

• Freshmen Skai Moore and Pharoh Cooper were named to the 247Sports.com All-America second team.

Connor Shaw was given honorable mention by SI.com.

• UPDATE: TJ Holloman has been named to the Freshman All American third team by Athlon.

As the official team site reminds us, this marks the fifth consecutive season South Carolina's had a first team All-America selection, which is a school record. Only one has been an offensive player (Alshon Jeffery, 2010, of whose collegiate heroics you were recently reminded).

And don't forget about our Brawl-American selections.
