In another game where South Carolina's front line trio of Alaina Coates, Elem Ibiam, and Aleighsa Welch proved too much for an opponent to handle, South Carolina dominated Ole Miss to the tune of a 99-70 blowout. Coates led the Gamecocks with an impressive 24 points and 12 boards.
Post play was again a huge difference-maker for Carolina in this game. Whereas Carolina enjoys the services of the 6'4 Coates and Ibiam and the 6'0 Aleighsa Welch, Ole Miss's three front-line starters are 6'3, 6'1, and 6'1. The Rebels have a tall front line for an SEC women's basketball team, but not relative to Carolina. The Lady Gamecocks' talented trio were able to get a lot of close looks and went 18-22. Surely thinking in part of that impressive stat, after the game, Ole Miss coach Matt Insell praised Carolina, saying that "We've played a lot of top 10 teams this year and South Carolina is the best team we've played so far this season."
Now ranked seventh in the nation, Carolina is sporting its highest ranking in 12 years, and it continues to sit atop the SEC standings along with Texas A&M. Carolina remains a two-seed in ESPN's bracketology.
Carolina hosts Mizzou on Sunday. Show up if you live nearby and can make it. A'ja Wilson will be in attendance on her official visit. A good crowd would surely make an impression on her.
